Rishikesh is the seventh most popular city in the state of Uttarakhand. Rishikesh is also spelt as Hrishikesh, is the city governed by the Rishikesh Municipal corporation (since 2017).
It is known as town and regarded as one of the holiest places for the Hindus. Since ancient times Hindu saints and sages visiting Rishikesh to meditate in search of higher knowledge. In September 2015 Union tourism minister Mahesh Sharma announced that the Rishikesh and Haridwar will be first in the India to be given title of the “twin national heritage cities”. Due to religious importance of the place alcohol and non vegetarian food are strictly prohibited in Rishikesh.
The city has hosted annual international yoga festival on first week of march every year. Rishikesh is the starting point for the travelling to the four Chota char Dham- Badrinath, Kedarnath , Gangotri and Yamunotri. 1- Triveni Ghat
Triveni Ghat is the ghat situated in Rishikesh. It is the most famous ghat in Rishikesh at the banks of river Ganga. This ghat is even used for the last rites and rituals of their loved once by the Devotees.
Triveni ghat is famed for the ganga aarti performed to chant of the Vedic anthem. The ganga aarti at Triveni ghat occur between 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm. The ghat is crowded by the devotees to take bath to get free from their sins. It is said that the ghat was visited by the Lord Krishna when he got hurt by the arrow of jara.
On the Triveni ghat one can visit Lakshminarayan Temple and Gita Mandir. Dawn boat ride is the must on a short tour to Triveni Ghat.

Triveni ghat is 9km far from Lakshman jhula and 6 km from Ram jhula. One can visit Rishikesh by airplane Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun is the nearest airport to Rishikesh. And the nearest railway station is in Haridwar, Which is 25 km away from the Rishikesh.
2- Lakshman Jhula Bridge
Lakshman Jhula Bridge is the suspension bridge across the river Ganga. The bridge is open 24 hours recommended timings to visit is during 5:00 am to 10:00 pm.
It is believed that the Hindu god Lakshmana crossed the Ganga on Jute ropes where the bridge was found. The bridge was completed in 1929. It is located 5 km north-east of the city of Rishikesh in the state of Uttarakhand.
The bridge connects the villages of the Tapovan to Jonk. Jonk is in Pauri Garhwal District, on the east bank while Tapovan is in the Tehri Garhwal district , on the west bank. Lakshman bridge is the pedestrian bridge also used by the motorcycles and bicycles. It is the Landmark of the Rishikesh. A larger bridge 2 km downstream from the Lakshman jhula is Ram Jhula.
In 2020 this bridge is restricted to pedestrian access and it is said to be closed permanently when the replacement is build collateral to it.

3- Neer Garh Waterfall
The blue Neergarh waterfalls also known as “Neer Gaddu” are located about 5 km and 7km from Lakshman Jhula on Reshikesh- Badrinath Highway. During summers tourists in large number visit Neergarh waterfalls to bath in the cool water of the stream flowing in nearby. Post monsoons is the best timings to visit there.
Things to do at Neer Garh Waterfall
Many tourists come to savor the beauty of two tier Neergarh waterfalls. There is also the small waterfall located at the 1 km trekking distance from the road which have the pool.
People can soak, dip their feet or even bath in the cold water. Two km from here, will take you to the bigger waterfall which has a quiet large pool. Butterflies fluttering around the flowers, so don’t you forget to take your cameras along.

These waterfalls are about 9 km from Rishikesh railway station. You can reach their hiring scooty or bike or by car which is 250 m of hike from road.
4- Kunjapuri Devi Temple
Kunjapuri Devi temple is situated in the godly state of Uttarakhand it is one of the most pious temples in the whole India. It is said that Kunjapuri Devi temple is established at the spot where the chest of the sati had fallen.
Being a religious place thousands of visitors come throughout the year especially in the month of Navratras. Grand celebrations are held during the time of Dusshera festival. Best timings to visit Kunjapuri Devi temple in the months May to October.

People can reach Kunjapuri Devi temple by air the nearest airport is Jolly Grant or by rail in the Kunjapuri there is the train facility between Haridwar and Rishikesh. 5- Parmarth Niketan Ashram
Parmarth Niketan is the Ashram located in the city of Rishikesh in the state of Uttarakhand. The ashram was founded by Pujya swami Chidanand Saraswatiji Maharaj in 1942. Since 1986 Pujya Swami Chidanand Saraswatiji Maharaj is the Spiritual head and the president of Parmarth Niketan. For last 25 years Sadhvi Bhagawati Saraswati teaches and lives at the Parmarth Niketan Ashram.
It is the biggest ashram in Rishikesh with over 1000 rooms, this ashram provides clean, pure and sacred atmosphere as well as beautiful gardens to thousands of pilgrims who came from all corners of the earth. Parmarth Niketan is open for all visitors. The ashram is available at the cost of Rs 500 vary upto Rs 2000 depending upon room type and service.
